Simon Miller’s Retirement – 8th August 2025

Friday 8th August 2025 saw the end of an era in Secura Labels’ history as we gathered together to mark the retirement of our Managing Director, Simon Miller, after an extraordinary 37 years with the business.
Simon’s journey with Secura began on the hot foil machines, before moving on to work as a Flexo printer and later taking on a variety of office based roles.
Over his more than three decades with us (ignoring a few weeks fairly early on where he briefly considered a career outside of the label industry!) he became a cornerstone of the business, playing an increasingly significant role in shaping our growth, culture and reputation.
No matter which role he played within the business, Simon always made it his own and always made this an enjoyable and valued place to work, which is probably why we have so many long serving colleagues. Whether dressing up for Halloween, Christmas Jumper Day or appearing as the Easter Bunny to hand out gifts to colleagues and friends, creating ‘memorable’ team building events, or investing his seemingly unending energies into events and activities to support the wider community and charities, Simon has touched the hearts and made many lasting connections within the Secura Labels community and far beyond.
Even as Managing Director, leading by example, he would still sweep up, empty the bins and strim the grass whenever needed, and it was this down to earth approach that endeared him to the team and made him very popular with customers, which, in turn, made Secura Labels a business you want to do business with.
Approaching his retirement, Simon estimated that there have been something like 14 billion labels produced and 656,000 cups of tea made during his time with us, but do not think for one minute that after all of that, he will be just putting his feet up and relaxing.
Knowing Simon, his newfound ‘free’ time will not be free at all, indeed he has already secured his next ‘job’ role as ‘Professional Grandad’ to his five grandchildren, plans to spend more time with his family, and will no doubt continue doing whatever he can for the wider community and the charities he cares so passionately about.
So keep an eye out for Simon on one of his many bike rides, or helping out at a fair or charity event where he might be stilt walking, giant bubble making, balloon modelling, or more.
Friday was a fantastic celebration and reflection of Simon’s time with us and he was delighted to receive many gifts from colleagues and the company including a bespoke ‘heritage’ plaque that will be put up on site, a specially commissioned cartoon highlighting many memories of his last 37 years, a bespoke crafted and framed hot foil printing plate, a selection of cakes, drinks, a new Lego set and more.
So it only remains for everyone at Mercian and Secura Labels to wish Simon well in all his future roles and endeavours. He has truly left a strong legacy that we will continue to build on.
